DIN 1.2242 Cold Work Tool Steel is a Low alloyed and die steel, 1.2242 is a relatively tough steel, with good wear resistance and hardenability. It is a die steel, use in extrusion mould, hot cast mould.

Heat Treatment
Annealing
710 to 750 °C
After the annealing, degree of hardness max. 220HBS

Quenching
800 to 830 °C
Quenching in oil

Tempering
180 to 250 °C
tempering temperature 100°C: 65HRC
tempering temperature 200°C: 63HRC
tempering temperature 300°C: 60HRC
tempering temperature 400°C: 55HRC

Normalizing
At Normalizing temperature, then cool in furnace.
