Type of steel and characteristics:
Chromium molybdenum vanadium hot work steel, with 1% vanadium
Improved retention of hardness and high temperature wear resistance compared with "USN", very good deep hardening properties; insensitivity to thermal shocks. Water cooling possible.
Applications:
Extrusion tools for aluminium alloys section and tube production, such as high stress dies of all shapes, die holders,dummy blocks,stems, mandrels and tips, pressure discs,shear blades; stems and mandrels for the extrusion of steel and of copper alloys; die casting tools of all types for aluminium and zinc alloys; tools on forging machines, such as dies and inserts, jaws and punches for aluminium and copper alloys as well as steel for making screws and bolts
Heat treatment:
Annealing:Temperature:820-840°C
Holding time: 4-6 h; Slow furance cooling
Hardness after annealing :Max. 220HB.
Sress relieving:Temperature: appr.650 °C
Holding time: 2-4 h;Slow cooling
Hardening:Temperature:1020-1050°C
Quenching: air, hot bath at appr. 540 °C ,oil or
Polymer (when oil or polymer, interrupt at 230-280 C),
or vacuum hardening.
Hardness obtainable: appr.55 HRC.
Tempering: Temperature:520-700°C
To increase toughness, temper 2 or 3 times.
Nitriding: possible.
Preheating before use: 250-350°C absolutely necessary
