Steel used for water hardened machine spanners, screw spanners, screwdrivers.


Heat Treatment
Soft Annealing
Heat to 680 to 720 °C, Cool slowly.
This will produce a maximum Brinell hardness of 220.


hardening
Harden from a temperature of 830 to 860 °C followed by water quenching.
Hardness after quenching is 52-55HRC.


Tempering
tempering temperature 100°C: 52HRC
tempering temperature 200°C: 50HRC
tempering temperature 300°C: 47HRC
tempering temperature 400°C: 43HRC
